How can we use information to reduce daily traffic woes and commute better?
Dig designed the Bangalore Traffic Information System aka btis.in to inform, update and let folks interact on everything regarding city travel. Information has been designed to show live traffic density along the roads, give directions from point A to B, bus routes, carpooling, traffic rules, RTO office details, etc. Live camera feeds from important road junctions and Mobile Density data from Airtel are mapped onto the Mapunity GIS platform to give real time traffic status. This information is also available via mobile.
The Traffic Information System is now accessible for other major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, etc.
STRUCTURE// Dig planned BTIS with an open horizontal navigation for quick in-line viewing of all information available on the site. This is to make sure the user, novice and otherwise, does not have to deep dive to find information and brings to focus upfront many features of the site. Map-based info on the main panel is designed to link to the query results on the right.
VISUAL DESIGN// Dig's research showed that the site's target audience is conversant with rich internet apps and hence the design language aligns by being crisp and contemporary. A sprinkle of humour; the btis signage system (icons to the rest of us) is made to look uncannily similar to the signage system on Indian roads :)
